Brazil reports multiple major criminal convictions and investigations

Several criminal cases and legal rulings have been reported in Brazil. In Concórdia, Santa Catarina, a stepfather was sentenced to over 53 years in prison for the torture and murder of his one-year-old stepdaughter. The child's mother was also convicted for criminal negligence after the pair falsely claimed the infant had choked on a banana to cover up physical injuries.

In Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Pernambuco, José Robson da Silva received a 47-year sentence for the feminicide of a nurse and the attempted murder of two others. Meanwhile, in Gaspar, a man was sentenced to over 18 years for domestic violence and arson that destroyed a family home.

Other significant legal developments include a trio in Criciúma being sentenced to a combined 83 years for a robbery-murder, and a man in Cunha Porã facing trial for allegedly attempting to kill his ex-wife by administering excessive doses of medication. In Campos Novos, a 14-year-old girl was rescued after being held against her will by a 60-year-old man, who is under investigation for kidnapping and sexual violence. Additionally, police in Araranguá arrested a 39-year-old man following an attempted theft at a commercial establishment.
