Ćićarija forest: 40 hectares cut amid management dispute
Approximately 40 hectares of forest have been cut in the Ćićarija region, specifically within the Račja Vas area. Local residents reported that tree felling and timber transport occurred daily for over two months before inspection authorities intervened to halt the activity.
The Association for the Management of Common Property of the Village of Račja Vas initiated the works, claiming they were legally conducted for the purpose of road maintenance and fire protection. The association stated that the removal of brush and damaged trees was based on official permits issued by an authorized engineer. The incident has raised local questions regarding the legal authority to manage the forest area and the underlying ownership rights of the communal property.
