Iarnród Éireann to pilot tea trolley services on Dublin-Galway trains

Iarnród Éireann is launching a six-month pilot program to reintroduce tea and snack trolleys on select intercity train services between Dublin Heuston and Galway Ceannt. The catering service, which was largely suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be operated by the Irish company Sambos.ie.

The pilot will run on six specific routes daily, including three services each way from Monday to Saturday and three services each way on Sundays. This commercial trial will operate without public service obligation funding to assess the viability of expanding catering services across the wider intercity network.

Following the completion of the pilot, Iarnród Éireann will consult with the National Transport Authority to decide on potential more extensive commercial catering operations. Currently, refreshment services are limited to the Dublin-Cork and Dublin-Belfast routes.
