IAS officer Vikas Marmat booked for alleged assault on Bengaluru police
Vikas Marmat, an IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre serving as Project Director of the Kuppam Area Development Authority, has been booked by Bengaluru police following an incident at a pub.
The incident occurred around 1:30 am on October 10 during a late-night inspection conducted by the Cubbon Park police. The inspection was part of a directive from the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner to verify customer ages and check for suspicious persons.
According to the FIR, Marmat and three others—identified as Abhay Udaysingh, Nithish, and Roshan—allegedly picked a quarrel with a police inspector and his colleagues over a trivial issue while identity cards were being checked. The group is accused of abusing, assaulting, and threatening the officers. A criminal case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is currently underway.
