IATA expands Latin American cargo services and forms CORSIA emissions alliance

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the rollout of its Cargo Accounts Settlement System (CASS) in several Latin American markets. Domestic CASS operations began in Mexico in April 2026, with IATA FlexiPay introduced to enable real‑time billing. Paraguay will receive CASS Export services in the fourth quarter of 2026, while Brazil is slated to launch CASS Domestic in early 2027, building on more than two decades of export operations. In 2025, cargo volumes reached 125,000 tonnes in Mexico, over 42,000 tonnes in Paraguay (a 225 % rise), and more than 791,000 tonnes in Brazil, where air cargo accounted for 5.9 % of export value.

Separately, IATA launched the Supporting Alliance for CORSIA EEU Supply to address bottlenecks in the carbon‑credit market for international aviation. The alliance aims to make 225‑250 million CORSIA‑eligible emissions units available by spring 2027 and to facilitate the transfer of credits between national climate commitments and the CORSIA scheme. Over 32 entities, including major airlines such as Air France‑KLM, ANA, Lufthansa Group, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines, have joined. IATA estimates the first phase could generate $4‑5 billion in climate finance, potentially rising to $100 billion by 2035.
