The IAU 100km World Championships will take place in Ames, Galicia, on Sunday, September 20, 2026. This 33rd edition of the event features 391 runners representing 42 countries.
The Spanish national team includes nine preselected athletes, led by Antonio Jesús Aguilar and Gemma Arenas. Arenas, who recently set a national record with a time of 7:20:57, will make her debut at this World Championship. The Spanish team seeks to build on their performance from the 2024 championships, where the men's team secured double silver in both individual and team categories.
Notable international competitors include world record holder Aleksandr Sorokin. The race consists of 20 laps around a circuit in Bertamiráns, starting and ending on Calle Alcalde Lorenzo. This marks the fourth time Spain has hosted this global competition, following previous editions in Santander (1988), Palamós (1992), and Los Alcázares (2016).
