Šiaulių energija modernizes Rėkyva heat infrastructure
UAB Šiaulių energija is investing approximately 765,000 EUR to modernize the heat supply infrastructure in Rėkyva. The project involves upgrading the local boiler plant by implementing industrial heat pump technology to utilize aerothermal energy, which aims to increase the efficiency of heat energy generation. Preparatory construction work for the modernization has already commenced.
In a broader context regarding energy costs in Lithuania, data from the Lithuanian Heat Suppliers Association (LŠTA) highlights a significant disparity in heating expenses based on building efficiency. For the 2025–2026 season, average heating costs in uninsulated older apartment buildings are estimated at 2.18 EUR/m², whereas energy-efficient buildings cost only 0.91 EUR/m².
Mantas Paulauskas, chief specialist at LŠTA, noted that residents in high-quality renovated buildings can pay up to 2.5 times less for heating than those in unrenovated buildings, with the gap potentially exceeding three times when comparing the poorest quality structures to modern ones. The total cost is determined by both the price per kilowatt-hour and the total amount of heat consumed, which is influenced by climate and building thermal condition.
