Ibadan customary court hears divorce suits involving domestic abuse and neglect

A Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, is presiding over separate divorce suits involving allegations of domestic misconduct and financial abuse.

In one case, a man named Mukaila is seeking a divorce from his wife, Aminat, a member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC). Mukaila alleges that his wife has neglected her marital and parental duties, claiming she frequently returns home intoxicated at late hours and has been intimate with him only once in nearly two years. He further alleged that her neglect has resulted in the malnourishment of their children.

In a separate matter, a woman named Walimot is seeking to dissolve her marriage to Hameed. She alleges that her husband has physically assaulted her, threatened her life, and secretly transferred funds from her bank account to his own while deleting transaction alerts to hide the activity. Walimot, who identified herself as the defendant’s third wife, stated she sought police assistance due to fears for her safety.
