Ibagué faces water scarcity amid local infrastructure developments
Ibagué is facing a water scarcity alert due to high temperatures and a dry season, which has caused water levels to drop in approximately 75% of the city's aqueducts. The Secretary of Environment and Risk Management has requested that operators, including the Empresa Ibaguereña de Acueducto y Alcantarillado (IBAL), activate contingency plans. Significant reductions have been reported in rural areas, such as an 88% decrease at the San Isidro intake and a 77% decrease in Martinica.
In response to various local needs, Mayor Johana Aranda's administration has reported several milestones during its first 1,000 days of government. These include providing quality food and classroom improvements for over 38,000 children and implementing the ‘Combo 3x1’ strategy, which has benefited nearly 40 neighborhoods through over 50,000 square meters of infrastructure intervention.
Additionally, the city is preparing for the launch of the Tolima International Book Festival (FELIT 2026), with inaugural events scheduled at the Teatro Tolima.
