Ibagué Hosts Fifth National Congress of Women Officials and Leaders

More than 350 women from across Colombia gathered in Ibagué for the Fifth National Congress of Women Officials and Leaders. The event, opened by Mayor Johana Aranda, aimed to strengthen community leadership, exchange experiences and promote initiatives for social development. Participants included municipal councilors, community leaders and representatives of social organisations, engaging in conferences, panels and workshops on political participation, gender equity, governance and peacebuilding.

Aranda highlighted the role of women in creating more inclusive and participatory territories, noting that each attendee embodies the efforts of hundreds of communities seeking better opportunities. The congress seeks to reinforce networks among women from different regions, fostering the replication of successful projects to improve quality of life, economic autonomy and protection against gender‑based violence.
