Colombia’s June festivals highlight regional music, dance and traditions
From June 26‑29, the municipality of San Pedro in Valle del Cauca will host its patron saint celebrations, featuring the 36th National Competition of Unpublished Music for Bands, parades, a “Black Night” concert series and a live screening of the Colombia‑Portugal World Cup qualifier.
Ibagué will stage the climax of the 52nd Colombian Folklore Festival, including the official band‑imposition for 17 candidates in the National Folklore Reign, a Grand National Parade of San Pedro, free concerts by Checo Acosta and Felipe Peláez, and participation from more than ten countries.
Cali’s 26th Macetas Festival (June 24‑29) will showcase the traditional sugar‑craft of alfeñique, with 98 artisans, workshops, and the inaugural International Sweet Tradition meeting bringing guests from Japan, Mexico and other Colombian regions.
In the Huila department, the 65th Bambuco Festival in San Juan and San Pedro will feature the National Bambuco Reign Folkloric Show, where 22 candidates present regional dances, music and costumes under the governor’s patronage.
