Ibagué Mayor seeks agreement to prevent transport strike
Ibagué Mayor Johana Aranda has announced a meeting with transport unions to prevent a potential strike scheduled for October. Four sectors—including taxi, bus, jeep, and special transport representatives—have united to coordinate a possible mobilization.
The transport groups cite concerns regarding informal transportation affecting their income, general mobility issues in the city, and alleged unfulfilled commitments from the municipal administration. Mayor Aranda emphasized the importance of consensus, stating, “More than rising up to protest, it is sitting down to negotiate,” and noted that protests without agreements do not establish a clear path for addressing grievances.
