IBANQROO promotes sustainable fishing at The Mayan Permit 2026
The Institute of Biodiversity and Protected Natural Areas of Quintana Roo (IBANQROO) served as a jury for the The Mayan Permit 2026 fishing tournament held in Xcalak from August 6 to 8. The event focused on sustainable fishing practices through a catch-and-release fly fishing format.
Seventy-six international participants and 19 vessels took part in the competition. Officials reported the catch and release of 136 specimens, including tarpon, bonefish, permit, snook, and jack. The tournament took place within the Manatí State Sanctuary Reserve in the Bay of Chetumal, an area noted for its well-conserved ecosystems.
Representatives from the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP) and the Xcalak Port Authority were also present to support the conservation-oriented event.
