Ibarra maintains urban transport fares at 35 cents until 2026

The Ibarra Municipal Council has approved a project in its first debate to maintain urban transport fares at 35 cents until December 2026. This decision affects approximately 130,000 daily users and 327 transport units across four operators: La Esperanza, 28 de Septiembre, San Miguel de Ibarra, and Campesinor.

The measure aims to prevent a potential fare increase to 43 cents caused by rising operational costs, particularly diesel prices. To support this, the Municipality has approved a temporary compensation of USD 912,738.75 to partially cover the economic impact on operators. Funding for this compensation required reorganizing municipal resources and reducing certain expenditures, including the cancellation of mass concerts for foundation festivities.

The ordinance includes conditions for the transport operators. In exchange for the municipal subsidy, companies must meet specific quality standards, including improvements in routes, frequencies, vehicle conditions, driver training, and passenger service.
