Iberdrola and Basque Government advance largest solar plant in Euskadi
Iberdrola and the Basque Government are advancing the Ekienea photovoltaic project in Álava, which is set to become the largest solar plant in the Basque Country. The project, primarily located in the municipality of Armiñón, has an installed capacity of 107.6 MW.
The project has entered the public information phase to obtain administrative construction authorization. This follows a positive environmental impact statement issued in May 2025 and a prior administrative authorization granted in December 2025.
Key infrastructure includes the ST Armiñón 30/132 kV transformer substation and an 18.038-kilometer evacuation line connecting to the Puentelarrá substation. The line will consist of 16.806 kilometers of overhead cables passing through Armiñón, Ribera Baja, Ribera Alta, and Lantarón, with a 1.232-kilometer underground section located in Lantarón.
