Iberdrola and Naturgy seek water rights for new hydroelectric project

A Senra Infraestucturas, a joint venture between Iberdrola and Naturgy, has requested a concession from the Confederación Hidrográfica del Miño-Sil (CHMS) to utilize water from the Sil and Edrada rivers. The proposal aims to harness up to 75,000 liters per second in the municipality of Parada de Sil for a hydraulic energy storage plant.

The request was published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE), initiating an administrative procedure and a one-month public information period. This period allows other companies to submit alternative project proposals. The publication does not constitute final authorization or a definitive concession.

Project sources have stated that “no investment decision has been made” at this time. Future investment will depend on securing a broad hydroelectric concession and receiving capacity payments.
