Iberdrola briefly becomes world's largest electric utility by market cap

Iberdrola briefly became the world's most valuable electric utility by market capitalization on Tuesday, surpassing the American company NextEra Energy. During intraday trading, Iberdrola reached a valuation of approximately 142.21 billion euros, narrowly exceeding NextEra's recent valuation.

The shift in leadership is closely linked to market reactions in the United States. NextEra's stock has faced a correction of roughly 20% since announcing its intention to acquire Dominion Energy in a deal valued at approximately 67 billion dollars. This acquisition remains subject to regulatory approvals, which could delay the process for months.

Iberdrola has seen significant growth this year, with shares rising nearly 15%. The company's strategic plan for 2025-2028 focuses on economic electrification, with projected gross investments of 58 billion euros through 2028, centered on power grids.
