Spanish energy sector updates: Iberdrola, Magnon, and Grenergy

Various Spanish energy sector developments highlight the ongoing transition toward renewable technologies. Iberdrola has enhanced its Renove plan, offering up to an 85% discount and up to 6,000 euros in aid to encourage households to replace gas or oil boilers with aerothermal systems. This initiative includes interest-free financing and assistance with energy certificates required for tax deductions.

In the industrial sector, Magnon is positioning agroforestry biomass as a strategic alternative to natural gas for heat-intensive processes. This move aims to reduce industrial exposure to volatile gas prices, which saw a significant increase in the Spanish MIBGAS market.

Meanwhile, Grenergy Renovables is facing financial scrutiny. While the company uses asset rotation to fund growth by combining solar projects with battery storage, RBC has lowered its EBITDA forecasts for 2026-2028 by approximately 25%. Analysts note that while the strategy is attractive for long-term returns, the intense turnover of assets is placing significant pressure on short-term earnings.
