Iberdrola to double Whitelee wind farm capacity with €1.8bn investment
Iberdrola, via its UK subsidiary ScottishPower, announced a €1.8 billion plan to repower the Whitelee onshore wind farm, the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom. The project will replace existing turbines with newer, more powerful models, increasing the park’s capacity from 539 MW to about 1 GW, enough to supply clean electricity to more than 1.5 million people.
The upgrade is expected to generate roughly £380 million of gross value added for the Scottish economy over the next decade and create hundreds of jobs. It forms part of Iberdrola’s broader £28 billion UK investment programme through 2028 aimed at expanding renewable generation and modernising the power grid.
