Iberia and Cabo da Roca prepare for solar eclipse observations

Various initiatives are being organized to observe an upcoming solar eclipse. Iberia will operate a special flight, IB1473, using an Airbus A321 XLR to provide a unique perspective from an altitude of 10 kilometers. This flight is specifically designated for the Shelios project researchers to study the solar corona. The mission will depart from Madrid's Adolfo Suárez Barajas airport and overfly the province of Palencia, where visibility is expected to be 100%. The flight will be streamed on social media, including cockpit views via GoPro.

In Portugal, the Cabo da Roca lighthouse will open its grounds to the public for eclipse viewing. Parques de Sintra announced that special five-euro tickets will be available, which include protective eyewear. This site offers a view of the eclipse from the westernmost point of continental Europe. In Sintra, the phenomenon is expected to begin around 18:39, reaching a maximum at 19:36 with approximately 95% solar obscuration.
