Iberia extends Cuba flight suspension until June 2027

Spanish airline Iberia has announced it will extend the suspension of its direct flights between Madrid and Havana until at least June 30, 2027. The decision is driven by Cuba’s ongoing energy crisis, characterized by severe fuel shortages and a significant drop in tourism demand.

The airline stated that the situation in Cuba has affected both demand and operational conditions “very significantly.” While Iberia intends to resume service if conditions allow, it is offering flexible options for passengers with existing tickets, including cash refunds, vouchers, or rebooking to alternative destinations such as Miami, Panama, Santo Domingo, or Mexico.

Cuba’s aviation sector is facing broader challenges due to the lack of aviation kerosene. Other carriers, such as World2Fly, have also suspended operations. Air Europa remains one of the few direct links between Spain and Cuba, though its return flights currently require technical stops in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, to refuel.
