Iberian border regions promote cross-border tourism through cycling and hiking

Various cross-border tourism initiatives are promoting the natural and cultural heritage of the Portugal-Spain border region.

In Vimioso, Portugal, the ‘Iberlobo on Bike’ project will host a 52-kilometer cycling tour on October 17. The route starts and ends in Vimioso, traveling to Trabazos, Spain. The initiative, funded by Interreg Europe, aims to establish a transboundary tourist destination involving the municipalities of Bragança, Miranda do Douro, and Vimioso in Portugal, alongside partners in Spain such as the Diputación de Zamora.

Additionally, the ‘Rotas da Raia Ibérica’ project recently concluded its annual cycle with a hike known as the ‘Rota dos Túneis’ in Spain. Over 200 participants walked the ‘Short Route’ of the Camino de Hierro between La Fregeneda and Vega Terrón. This project is a collaboration between the Municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and the Diputación de Salamanca, designed to highlight the historical and natural value of the border territories.
