Iberian folklore festivals to feature traditional costumes and masks
Several regional cultural festivals are scheduled for September 26, highlighting traditional Iberian heritage through parades and folklore.
In Santarém, Portugal, the IV Desfile do Traje Popular do Ribatejo will feature approximately 400 folklorists from 27 groups affiliated with the Federação do Folclore Português. The event aims to showcase the diversity of traditional Ribatejo costumes and recreate ethnographic scenes of rural life, such as wedding processions and daily community customs.
In Zamora, Spain, the XV Festival de la Máscara will bring together 33 mask groups and roughly 500 participants. The festival includes an international component with 10 groups from Portugal—primarily from the Braganza district—alongside 9 groups from other Spanish provinces and 14 local representations from Zamora. The parade will showcase ancestral characters, traditional attire, and sounds associated with winter festive rituals.
