IBIA calls for increased protection of seafarers after shipping attacks
The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has called for enhanced protections for seafarers following recent attacks on commercial shipping, including an incident involving a Peninsula tanker. These attacks have resulted in fatalities, injuries, and missing crew members.
IBIA Executive Director Alexander Prokopakis stated that seafarers are civilians providing essential services to the global economy and should not become victims of geopolitical conflicts. The association expressed support for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in demanding an immediate end to attacks on merchant vessels.
IBIA is urging governments and the international community to take decisive action to prevent further loss of life, safeguard global trade, protect freedom of navigation, and uphold international law.
