Ibis Málaga Centro hotel demolition to begin next week

Demolition work is set to begin next week at the Ibis Málaga Centro hotel following a devastating fire that started on May 25 at the Le Grand Café, located within the complex. The fire burned for 46 days, finally being declared extinguished by the Málaga City Council on July 10.

AGI Demoliciones, a company based in Almería, has deployed workers to the site to begin preparations. The demolition process is expected to last approximately one and a half to two months. The operation is considered delicate due to the soil characteristics and the hotel's location near a busy tunnel under the Guimbarda corridor, which has already seen lane closures for safety.

The removal of the burnt structure may eventually allow for new development. Prior to the fire, the owners had been seeking planning permission to increase the height and room capacity of the hotel by up to 20 percent, in accordance with a 2021 regional government decree.
