Ibiza Airport lacks connection to Spain's public water and sanitation networks
Ibiza Airport is the only major airport in Spain that lacks a connection to a public water supply network. Among the 14 Spanish airports that handled over five million passengers last year, Ibiza recorded 9.1 million travelers, ranking tenth.
According to Aena, the airport is entirely self-sufficient regarding water. It relies on five authorized private wells and the collection of rainwater from the surrounding urban area. Despite requests, the facility is not connected to the municipal water grid.
Furthermore, the airport lacks any connection to an external sanitation network. It manages its own wastewater through an on-site treatment plant. The treated water is used for irrigating green areas and, when meeting specific parametric values, for flushing toilets.
