Ibiza ambulances reach 53.5 degrees Celsius, union reports

The labor union USAE has reported extreme temperatures inside GSAIB ambulances in Ibiza, noting that interior temperatures reached 53.5 degrees Celsius in Sant Antoni. The union claims this is a structural issue rather than an isolated incident caused by a single heatwave.

A primary cause cited is the lack of covered parking at the Sant Antoni base, which leaves vehicles exposed to direct sunlight throughout the day. USAE warns that these conditions pose significant thermal risks to Emergency Medical Technicians (TES) and patients, including potential heatstroke and burns from touching vehicle components.

Furthermore, the union expressed concern that extreme heat could deteriorate medical equipment and oxygen systems, potentially compromising the quality of patient care. While the union notes that certain labor safety decrees regarding temperature limits (between 17 and 27 degrees) do not strictly apply to transport vehicles, they argue these values should serve as a safety reference for health and security.
