Ibiza and Gelderland Hold Events for Rare August 12 Total Solar Eclipse

On 12 August 2024 a rare total solar eclipse will pass over the Balearic Islands and the Netherlands, with totality expected between 20:26 and 20:32 local time. In Ibiza, clubs are organising special night‑long parties to coincide with the eclipse. Pikes announced a DJ Harvey takeover at 528 Ibiza, while the Feels Like Eclipse festival on S’Arenal Beach and the Woomoon 10‑Year Anniversary at Cova Santa will feature extended sets timed to the moment of totality. DJ Harvey said on Instagram, "It is a full solar eclipse with totality lasting more than two minutes while the sun sets".

In the Dutch province of Gelderland, several locations have been highlighted for optimal viewing. Open sites along dikes on the Waal and Rhine, the Posbank heath, the Kootwijkerzand dunes, the Veluwemeer shoreline, and the Bussloo recreation area all offer unobstructed western horizons. The Volkssterrenwacht Bussloo will host a free public viewing session with telescopes and eclipse glasses, and other local star‑watch groups are arranging similar events.
