Ibiza authorities fine Palma taxi for unauthorized operation

Ibiza Local Police and the Consell d’Eivissa have issued a fine to a taxi from Palma for allegedly operating in Ibiza without the required municipal authorization. The driver faces sanctions ranging from 1,001 to 6,000 euros for a very serious infraction, with one report noting a specific fine of 4,333 euros for allegedly soliciting clients at a taxi stand.

The authorities stated the action is part of ongoing joint controls to combat transport intrusion during the tourist season. While recent Balearic regulations allow for certain insular authorizations, they do not permit taxis from one island to provide free service on another without specific permission.

Biel Moragues, president of Taxis-PIMEM, has defended the driver, disputing the claim that the vehicle was operating commercially. He stated the seven-seater vehicle was carrying seven taxi drivers from Palma who had traveled to Ibiza for a meal and leisure. Moragues presented travel tickets to argue that the occupants were merely visiting and that the vehicle had only committed a traffic infraction by parking at a taxi stand, rather than engaging in illegal transport services.
