Ibiza City Council issues 10,000 euro fine for animal abandonment

The Ibiza City Council has opened a disciplinary proceeding involving a 10,000 euro fine following the abandonment of Kali, a 13-year-old mixed-breed dog. Kali was discovered in the Sa Joveria parking lot and transferred to the Sa Coma Animal Protection Center in April 2025. After officials were unable to locate the microchip owner, the municipality initiated the sanctioning process.

This case marks the 12th such sanction for animal abandonment in the municipality in recent years, bringing the total accumulated fines to 120,000 euros. Manuel Jiménez, the Councilor for Animal Welfare, stated that these actions are part of a commitment to combat abandonment and promote responsible pet ownership.

To facilitate animal welfare, the council has removed adoption fees and introduced a specific button in the ‘Línea Verde’ mobile application to allow citizens to report animal rights violations anonymously. The administration also noted that citizens unable to care for their pets can formally renounce them legally at the Sa Coma center to avoid abandonment.
