Ibiza human trafficking ring dismantled, liberating 25 women

The Guardia Civil has dismantled a criminal organization in Ibiza through Operation Gecaroni, resulting in the liberation of 25 women and the arrest of four individuals. The network specialized in human trafficking for sexual exploitation, primarily targeting vulnerable young Venezuelan women between the ages of 18 and 25.

Victims were lured to Spain with fraudulent job offers in the hospitality or manicure sectors. Upon arrival, members of the ring would seize their belongings and cash at the airport. The women were then moved to properties controlled by the group and informed they owed a debt of approximately 5,000 euros, which they were forced to repay through sexual services.

Investigators found that the victims were kept under strict control using direct surveillance and video monitoring systems. The organization exploited the irregular administrative status of some victims to instill fear and prevent them from seeking help from police or medical services. The group's activities were concentrated in the Playa d'en Bossa area during the summer months, though they reportedly moved operations to mainland Spain during the winter. The detainees face charges including forced prostitution, drug trafficking, and money laundering. During raids, authorities seized approximately 120,000 euros in cash, narcotics, and various electronic devices.
