Ibiza President warns of potential migration crisis in Balearic Islands
Vicent Marí, president of the Consell Insular of Ibiza, has expressed deep concern regarding the potential for a large-scale migration crisis in the Balearic Islands. Following recent events in Ceuta, Marí warned that the islands lack the necessary resources to manage a sudden influx of migrants arriving via small boats, or 'pateras'.
Marí highlighted that the Algerian route is a consolidated path, noting that more migrants are already arriving in the Balearic Islands via this route than in the Canary Islands. He criticized the central government under Pedro Sánchez for allegedly withholding a report that suggested the possibility of a mass arrival of migrants, similar to what occurred in Ceuta. Marí stated that the islands are unprepared for a scenario where hundreds of boats could arrive simultaneously, describing the situation in Ceuta as an 'invasion without any control or foresight'.
