Ibiza residents protest flooding issues in Platja d’en Bossa

Residents of the Púrpura and Thalassa apartment complexes in Platja d’en Bossa, Ibiza, are denouncing the Ibiza City Council for failing to address drainage issues. The community reports that their parking areas have repeatedly flooded during heavy rains, such as during the storms on September 30 and October 9, 2025. These floods have inundated building basements and required cranes to remove trapped vehicles.

Locals claim the municipal council has begun construction on a new deterrent parking lot on Fray Luis de León street without including any drainage solutions, despite allegedly acknowledging the problem in a meeting in January. Residents suggest the flooding is caused by a new building that blocks a natural torrent, preventing surface and underground water from reaching the sea. This issue is compounded by clay soil that absorbs water slowly and high groundwater levels caused by airport road drainage pumps.
