IBM announces AI-driven modernization for mainframe systems

IBM has introduced a Statement of Direction for a forthcoming product called ‘IBM Z Atlas,’ an AI-native solution designed to manage the complexity of mainframe environments. The tool aims to map a client’s entire z/OS stack across infrastructure, middleware, and applications to reduce manual effort in tasks such as patch management, regulatory response, and knowledge sharing.

IBM Z Atlas is intended to mitigate unplanned z/OS outages by validating changes and assessing their impact on the system stack. The tool is expected to assist operations and development teams by providing shared visibility, accelerating modernization efforts, and providing context for AI-native automation.

In related developments, UNICOM Global announced that its mainframe solutions are ready to support the IBM z/OS V2.4 operating system and new releases of COBOL and PL/I, facilitating digital transformation and modernization for mainframe users.
