IBM Hits Quantum Verification Milestone as Shares Fall

International Business Machines Corp (IBM) announced new methods that make quantum‑computer results verifiable, a step the company says brings the technology closer to practical use. IBM said it is investing billions of dollars in quantum research and partnered with several academic groups to develop the verification techniques.

At the same time, IBM’s share price has slumped, losing more than 22 % over the past 30 days after the firm cut its 2026 earnings outlook and reported weak mainframe sales. The stock closed at €194.74, still down 25 % year‑to‑date, while the company’s software segment grew but its infrastructure and Z‑Mainframe businesses contracted. Analysts note that the quantum breakthrough does not yet translate into revenue, leaving the financial outlook uncertain.
