IBM Japan targets doubled development productivity via AI

IBM Japan is advancing its AI-driven enterprise strategies, aiming to double software development lifecycle productivity by fiscal year 2028. At the Think Japan event, President Masaki Murata introduced initiatives to address security, token costs, and quality in the age of frontier AI. Key measures include participating in industry-wide security projects like ‘Project Glasswing’ with Anthropic and ‘Project Lightwell’ with Red Hat and Palo Alto Networks to enhance enterprise security and provide patches for open-source vulnerabilities.

IBM is also deploying tools such as the coding agent ‘IBM Bob’ and the ‘ALSEA’ solution to transform development processes. To support regional economic growth, IBM Japan has entered a partnership with Ryukyu Bank. This collaboration focuses on an ‘AI-first’ approach to redesign business processes, foster AI literacy among staff, and support the digital transformation of local businesses in Okinawa. The partnership aims to move beyond simple AI integration toward a complete organizational redesign centered on AI capabilities.
