IBM Mainframe Revenue Drop Triggers 25% Share Fall Amid Weak Quarterly Earnings

IBM reported a quarterly revenue of $17.2 billion and a net profit of $2.2 billion, but both fell short of Wall Street expectations. The company cited a 42 % plunge in its mainframe hardware sales, which lowered software revenue linked to each mainframe unit. As a result, IBM’s shares slumped about 25 %, the steepest single‑day drop in its history, and the firm cut its full‑year growth outlook.

In Hungary, the banking sector posted a net profit of 560 billion forints for the first half of 2026, down 26 % from the same period a year earlier. Higher operating costs, extra profit taxes and rising staff expenses weighed on results, though gains in interest income and fees provided some offset. Analysts expect the sector’s return on equity to improve in the second half of the year despite the current downturn.
