IBMA calls for year-round biological control against Thrips parvispinus

IBMA España has expressed concern regarding the impact of the Thrips parvispinus pest on horticulture in Almería. The association is calling on companies, cooperatives, technicians, and farmers to increase awareness and collectively implement the biological control protocols established by the Junta de Andalucía's Ministry of Agriculture.

To combat the pest effectively, IBMA emphasizes that biological control must be maintained throughout all cultivation cycles, including spring and summer. Concentrating efforts only on specific crops or seasons allows the pest to multiply and migrate to new plantations.

The association warns that massive pest entries from neighboring plots, insufficient containment measures during replanting, and chemical treatments incompatible with auxiliary fauna can undermine the efforts of individual farms, even those following correct strategies.
