Ibn Tofail University faces student trials and faculty infrastructure concerns

Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra is facing significant administrative and legal challenges. On September 21, the Kenitra Court of Appeal will begin hearings for 14 students, including three women, following student protests at the university. The National Union of Moroccan Students has condemned these legal proceedings and a mass expulsion of 22 students, claiming the actions are politically motivated and violate rights to freedom of expression and organization.

Simultaneously, the university's newly established Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry is facing criticism regarding its infrastructure and management. Reports indicate the faculty lacks a complete administrative structure and adequate academic staff, with lecture halls currently situated within the Faculty of Science. This development occurs amidst broader concerns regarding local healthcare, as the city lacks a university hospital and faces issues with existing medical facilities.
