Ibope unveils new TV audience metrics in Chile as Spain's AIMC reconsiders Comscore deal

Ibope released an updated television audience measurement for Chile that now adds consumption on cable, digital platforms and mobile devices, covering a universe of 16.6 million people. The new system combines People Meter 7 tablets with Focal Meter devices that track video use on smart screens, and shifts from percentage rates to absolute viewer numbers. "La forma en que consumimos contenido cambió radicalmente con la digitalización y la medición de audiencia también debía evolucionar", said Ignacio Mirchak, Ibope’s Country Leader for Chile.

In Spain, the Asociación para la Investigación de Medios de Comunicación (AIM C) had approved Comscore as the official digital‑audience measurer from January 2027, replacing GfK. After the appointment, Comscore’s newly appointed CEO Matt McLaughlin asked for a one‑month postponement to finalize contractual commitments. AIMC granted the extension while also evaluating alternative solutions to ensure continuity of audience measurement if the deal does not materialise.
