Brazil markets face volatility amid election uncertainty and CSN Mineração production cuts

The Brazilian financial market is experiencing significant volatility driven by upcoming presidential elections and global economic shifts. The Ibovespa index has shown mixed performance, recently recovering from a period of decline to reach levels near 183,800 points, supported by strong employment data. The Caged report indicated the creation of 165,827 jobs in August, while IBGE reported a quarterly unemployment rate of 5.3%.

In the corporate sector, CSN Mineração has announced a reduction in its 2026 production projections, lowering the expected volume from a previous range of 45–47 million tons to between 39 and 41 million tons. The company is also temporarily reducing low-quality iron ore production at its Pires complex in Minas Gerais due to rising international freight costs. Consequently, CSN Mineração raised its 2026 C1 cash cost projection to a range of US$ 25 to US$ 26 per ton.

Currency markets remain tense, with the US dollar reaching levels above R$ 5.20, influenced by global risk aversion and rising US Treasury yields. Meanwhile, the energy sector is seeing fluctuations as investors monitor geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their impact on oil prices.
