Ibovespa outperforms global markets amid foreign capital inflows

The Brazilian stock market has shown significant recent activity, with the Ibovespa index posting a 7.6% gain in dollars this week, outperforming global markets according to Bank of America. This performance is supported by nearly R$ 6 billion in foreign capital inflows into the B3 over the last 10 days, partially reversing previous outflows. The index closed a recent session at 185,147.15 points, following a week of gains driven by shifting expectations regarding fiscal policy and the upcoming electoral calendar.

Long-term comparisons highlight the impact of currency fluctuations and international exposure. Over the last decade, the S&P 500, when converted to reais, returned 502.8%, significantly outpacing the Ibovespa's 140.2% and local CDI-linked investments. This underscores the role of the US dollar in the Brazilian economy, where the exchange rate affects between 16% and 18% of the consumer basket through the pricing of commodities like coffee, wheat, and oil.
