Ibrahim Al-Madani, Mecca Grand Mosque muezzin, dies at 51

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, a prominent muezzin of the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) in Mecca, has passed away at the age of 51. His death was announced on Monday, September 21, 2026, shortly after he delivered what is believed to have been his final call to prayer (adhan) during the dawn Fajr service.

Al-Madani was one of 24 principal muezzins at the holy sanctuary, specifically recognized for his distinctive voice during the Fajr adhan and the recitation of takbirs during religious festivals. He also performed the “tabligh” duty, repeating the imam’s takbirs to ensure they were audible to the vast crowds within the mosque.

Born in Madinah in 1976, Al-Madani grew up in a religious household and began his journey as a muezzin at age 15. He was formally appointed to the Grand Mosque in 2017–2018. His passing has drawn widespread grief and tributes from the Muslim community globally, including condolences from Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.

His funeral prayer was held at Masjid al-Haram following the Asr prayer, and he was laid to rest at the Al-Mu’alla Cemetery in Mecca.
