Ibrahim Barrie criticizes Sierra Leone government policies

Hon. Ibrahim Barrie, a Member of Parliament for the All People’s Congress (APC), opened a four-day parliamentary debate on the President’s Address by critiquing several national issues in Sierra Leone.

Addressing the economy, Barrie argued that macroeconomic stability must lead to improved living conditions, specifically through affordable food, manageable transportation costs, and increased purchasing power. He also called for transparency regarding petroleum pricing and fuel subsidy management.

In the agricultural sector, he recommended that the Feed Salone initiative move beyond production targets by investing in mechanization, irrigation, storage, and market access to ensure locally produced rice remains competitive. Regarding education, he emphasized the need to prioritize teacher welfare, including timely pay and professional development.

Barrie also advocated for a comprehensive national response to the drug crisis, involving prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, alongside stronger efforts to combat trafficking networks. Additionally, he raised concerns regarding road infrastructure and safety, specifically calling for transparency in contracts and maintenance along the Masiaka–Kabala corridor.
