Ibrahim Traoré denounces ICC as tool of Western imperialism

Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC), labeling it an ‘organ of imperialism’ that serves a Western agenda. Traoré argued that the court enforces unbalanced justice by disproportionately targeting African figures while overlooking the actions of Western nations. This rhetoric follows the decision by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to withdraw from the ICC, a move justified by officials in those nations as a rejection of neocolonial repression.

In addition to his critiques of international legal institutions, Traoré has called for greater African self-reliance and sovereignty. He urged citizens to take responsibility for the continent's development through human capacity and innovation rather than waiting for divine intervention or foreign aid. To support these goals, his government has implemented policies such as mandating that 80% of aid be spent within Burkina Faso and establishing domestic industries for manufacturing soldier uniforms and armored vehicles.
