Ibu Kota Nusantara hosts cultural carnival and night run for Independence Day
To celebrate Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) organized a series of events in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan. The festivities included a Cultural Carnival featuring 30 groups from the East Kalimantan region showcasing traditional Indonesian attire and performing arts, such as Reog Ponorogo. Additionally, approximately 3,000 participants took part in the Merdeka Night Run to promote social interaction within the new capital.
During the carnival held at Jalan Sumbu Kebangsaan, participants faced extreme heat, with temperatures recorded between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius. Due to the dry season and the influence of El Niño, the OIKN has advised residents in the IKN delineation area to remain vigilant regarding the potential for forest and land fires.
