ICAM promotes legal aid visibility as union leaders meet Pope

In Spain, the Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía de Madrid (ICAM) held a special broadcast with Radio Nacional de España from the Plaza de Castilla courts to highlight the work of public defenders. Marking the 30th anniversary of the Free Legal Assistance Law, officials including Juan Manuel Mayllo and Isidro Moreno discussed the essential nature of the service in a democratic system. They emphasized the need to modernize the system and improve working conditions, noting that current access criteria based on the IPREM index are outdated.

In the Vatican, Gerardo Martínez, head of the Unión de Obreros de la Construcción (UOCRA) and international relations secretary of the CGT, participated in the “IV Encuentro Sinodal Fratelli Tutti: diálogo socioambiental Norte Sur.” The event, organized by several international religious and educational bodies, focused on socio-environmental dialogue between the North and South. During the meeting, Pope Leo XIV addressed an audience of union leaders, business representatives, and international organizations, stressing the importance of social justice and human-centered development models to protect those at risk of marginalization.
