ICC Berlin redevelopment to cost over 700 million euros

Berlin has unveiled a redevelopment concept for the International Congress Center (ICC), a high-tech architectural landmark that has been largely inactive since 2014 due to fire safety and renovation issues.

The project, estimated to cost more than 700 million euros, aims to revitalize the site by 2032. The development plan includes the construction of a 100-meter-tall high-rise for hotel and residential use at the northern end of the complex. Despite its modern utility, the core of the ICC is protected under monument preservation laws due to its historical significance as a symbol of Western technological progress during the Cold War.

Project developer Coloured Fields and Berlin officials anticipate that construction could begin as early as 2029, with full operational status expected by 2032.
