ICC Chairman Jay Shah Opens Tanzania's First ICC-Approved Cricket Arena

International Cricket Council Chairman Jay Shah inaugurated the Tanzania Cricket Association's new cricket arena at the University of Dar es Salaam. The facility, the first ICC‑approved arena in Tanzania, will serve as a high‑performance centre for the men's, women's and Under‑19 national teams and is slated to host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League B 2026 from 8‑18 August.

The venue marks a major milestone for cricket in Tanzania and the wider African region. Construction began after land was allocated in 2024, with the main phase completed in July 2026 and final works expected by year‑end. Since 2024, cricket participation in Tanzania has risen 70% to over 158,000 players, supported by 27 facilities, 119 coaches and 75 umpires. Officials highlighted the arena’s role in expanding grassroots and elite development across the country.
