ICC charges three former BCB officials with corruption

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged three former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials with breaches of the Anti-Corruption Code following investigations into the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The individuals charged are Muhammad Mukhlesur Rahman Shamim, a former BCB director and chairman of the board’s Audit Committee; Zakir Hossain, a former Security Liaison Officer; and Rakibul Islam Sunny, a former BCB councillor and member-secretary of the Audit Committee. All three have been provisionally suspended.

Shamim faces the most significant allegations, including fixing or improperly influencing the result, progress, or conduct of BPL matches, and soliciting others to engage in corrupt conduct. The charges also include failing to report corrupt approaches and obstructing investigations through the concealment or destruction of information. The BCB Integrity Unit conducted the probe, which examined misconduct related to match-fixing and non-cooperation with investigators. The accused have 14 days to formally respond to the charges.
